The Serama is a Bantam (mini) chicken and is a popular choice for backyard flocks who want a smaller-sized bird. The Rooster's crow is short-lived and a lower decibel like the Silkie. Click here to see a great YouTube video that gives you great examples. Seramas can fly a little more but rarely do unless scared. They like to stay close to you and the coop. They require less space than other breeds making them nice backyard flock pets. They are very personable and sweet-natured and like attention. Seramas are a great backyard chicken as well. The hen's eggs are slightly smaller than the silkie which is great for children or adults who like a smaller portion size!

Congratulations on your new additions!

Here are some helpful tips to help your little feathered cuties get the best start.

  • For the trip home Hatchlings will need to be kept warm.

  • Hatchlings require average temperatures of 95 degrees. This temperature can be reduced by 5 degrees weekly.

  • Brooder plate or warming light is needed, make sure chicks have enough room in the brooder so they can move away from the heat to self regulate temperature. If they are too warm or too cold it can affect their health.

  • Provide Unlimited Fresh water.

  • Offer water with Poultry NutriDrench

  • I suggest a higher protein crumble feed. If chicks are hatchlings I suggest blending crumbles to a finer grain.

You can add Poultry Nutri Drench to hatchlings water to give them added nutritional support. After they are 4 weeks old, add Poultry Cell to their water weekly.

Enjoy your new fluffy cuties!
