3 MONTH OLD PIC CURLY SUE_edited_edited.jpg

Springhouse Farm's Curly Sue

Both the American and European Teddywidders

are beautiful examples of this mild, fully wooled Lop breed.

If you are looking for a mild companion this is it. Teddywidders are fluffy lap bunnies!

While personalities can vary, they are very docile and are amazing little fluff balls of love!

They enjoy being cuddled and held like a lap dog.

This makes them ideal companions and/or therapy pet.

They can range in size from 2.5- 4.5 lbs.

About the size of a Holland Lop with lots of fluff!

My personal breeding goals:

My rabbitry breeding goals are to produce beautiful, healthy, and mild

Teddywidders with traits from the best of both the European and the American Teddywidders

working towards the American S.O.P.

American or European...

What is the Difference?

European Teddywidders

Teddywidders are a newer breed that is a combination of other breeds of rabbits.

European Teddywidders have been bred for a longer time and have an established recognized "type" in Europe so they produce more uniform characteristics in their offspring. They are rare here in the U.S. making them more expensive.

American Teddywidders

American Teddywidders are working on establishing their "type" and are not yet recognized in the U.S. as a breed. This means that characteristics may vary. This does not mean that they will not give you the beauty, personality and love of a Teddywidder. It just means that depending on the generation the "type" may vary more.

General Information

Pedigree:

Just some helpful information on how to read the pedigree of your new Teddywidder.

EU means that the rabbit was European Bred:

*Vienna - This is the gene that creates a blue-eyed white Rabbit.

*Vienna Marked (VM) - This means that the bunny not only carries the Vienna Gene but visually exhibits it in some way. Basically visually "marked".

This means the rabbit has white markings mixed with another color.  Typically, it looks like a Dutch rabbit typed pattern. If their eye color is blue or a purpleish blue, they will also be labeled VM as the Vienna gene is exhibited in the eye color. When Vienna Marked, you know that the rabbit definitely carries the Vienna Gene.

**Vienna Carrier (VC) means that through breeding the rabbit carries the Vienna Gene but is not visually "Marked" in any of the above ways. All bunnies who come from Vienna lines will be marked VC. If you determine that they do not carry the gene through test breeding I can change the label for you.

**Possible VC means that the rabbit does not visually exhibit the gene in any way but through breeding there is a possibility is does carry the gene. The only way to tell if it is a Vienna Carrier is through test breeding.

As of 8/27/25: To ensure that future breeders are aware of the possibility of the Vienna gene presence in my rabbits, I have decided to label all non-marked rabbits VC versus the *possible VC* label I have been using. Please let me know if you need any pedigree reprints up to this date.

**Double Maned (DM): This means that the rabbit has a Double Mane. This is identifiable at birth as bunnies will have a V-shaped look on their sides, indicating Double Maned.

**Double Wooled (DW/2X): Indicates that the rabbit is Double Wooled. You won't see this on my Euro pedigrees but you may see it on my pedigrees with some American in them to denote wool type genetics generationally.

Wool:

The American lines are wonderful and I support the development of these lines.

They are just as beautiful as the European-Lined Teddywidders.

I personally have chosen to focus on the European lines as they have been in development much longer than the American lines. With that being said I do have some bunnies that will have both in an effort to meld the two.

In my experience so far some of the differences I see are that the European lines typically have a more consistent type in wool, etc.

A couple of differences that I have noticed are:

* The Euros wool is typically less cottony and has more guard hairs giving them an easier to care for coat,

* The Euros have less issues with the wool around the eyes curling inward irritating the eyes.

*Americans may have issues with clearing on the saddle area. Basically, they only have one wool gene so their back will clear with shorter fur like a lionhead. This is difficult to determine when younger because it may not show up until 6 months of age or later when they molt out.

Body:

There are two different Body types in the works for possible future ARBA Breed Recognition so I am working towards both in my herd. The American lines will align more with one of those possiblities.

The Full Europeans typically start at $450.00

The 1/2 Euro 1/2 American will typically start at $350.00
